SHRUBS and trees will change the face of a popular park after a £5,000 lottery grant.
Dozens of varieties have been planted around the border of Power Park, off Broomhall Green, St Peter’s, Worcester, and when mature will add plenty of colour to the area.
Worcester City Council’s park wardens and parish council members spent weeks clearing undergrowth and planting about 5,000 trees and shrubs as well as 1,500 bulbs after receiving cash from Awards For All – a lottery scheme for local communities.
Among the varieties planted were japonicas, hazel, hedge maple, birch and English oak.
The work was recognised with an official opening ceremony attended by Worcester’s mayor Lucy Hodgson who praised the scene as a job well done.
She said: “The planting that has been done is really very good and will only get better as it all matures.
“The parks department have done a wonderful job.”
The park wardens were helped by parish council clerk Bob Jenkins and David Edgerton of the Duckworth Worcestershire Trust.
