ADULTS with autism can show their creative side and even have their work exhibited as part of a charity competition.
Adults with autism in Worcester are being invited to express their personal experiences of living with the disability by entering a new creativity competition launched by The National Autistic Society (NAS).
The theme of the UK-wide competition is ‘My life with autism or Asperger syndrome’ and forms part of the NAS “I Exist” campaign, launched earlier this year, which highlights the lack of support available for adults with autism.
There are over half a million people with autism in the UK – that’s 1 in 100 people.
There are three categories in the creativity competition, which is open to all adults with autism or Asperger syndrome aged 18 and over; poetry or prose up to a maximum of 300 words, 2D art which can include drawing, painting, collage, montage or digitally produced art and photography.
The closing date for entries is Tuesday, September 30.
Entries from across the UK will be judged by a panel including adults with autism and prizes will be awarded to the best three entries in each category. The winning nine entries and a selection of commended works will be exhibited initially in London, before touring the rest of the UK.
