HISTORY-lovers can discover some of Worcester’s most interesting buildings and beautiful gardens free of charge in a series of open days taking place across the UK.
Worcester Tourist Information Centre has produced a leaflet listing attractions and places of interest taking part in this year’s Heritage Open Days between Thursday, September 11 and Sunday, September 14.
They include the Guildhall, Worcester Cathedral, Worcester Porcelain Museum, Greyfriars, Tudor House Heritage Centre and Spetchley Park Gardens.
Other places opening will be St Swithun’s Church, Worcester Freemason’s Hall, the library and museum on Rainbow Hill, and St Nicholas’ Church in Warndon.
Worcester-based Discover History will also lead two 90-minute historical walking tours meeting outside the Guildhall, High Street, at 10.30am and 1.30pm on September 11.
Visitor centre manager Alexandra Syrotiuk said: “Last year attractions in Worcester opened over the four days. This year we wanted to build on this and increase awareness about the event locally, so we took the initiative to produce a small leaflet.”
The county council’s Hartlebury museum is open from 11am-5pm during the event. Rachel Robinson, Worcestershire County Council’s visitor services officer, said: “This weekend provides a great opportunity for people to see behind the scenes at our museum and have a good look around our permanent exhibits all free of charge.”
The leaflet is available from Worcester Tourist Information Centre at the Guildhall. For details, call 01905 726311.
