RESIDENTS and businesses in Worcestershire are being told to stay vigilant and keep an eye out for flash flooding after heavy rain fell across the county last night and this morning.

Weather experts have forecast that an entire month's rain - up to 40mm - could fall today, while the Met Office has forecast more rain for tomorrow.

The Environment Agency is now warning people about the possibility of flash flooding.

The agency said many places across Worcestershire are currently saturated which means there is the risk that any further heavy rainfall will run off the ground and go straight into the rivers.

As a result the agency is anticipating levels in watercourses to respond rapidly.

Regional director Mark Sitton-Kent said: “We are making our normal preparations for possible flooding, and urge the public to do the same by checking any flood warnings through our website or Floodline, and through the media.

"Our workforce have been out checking that screens and water courses we look after are clear so that water can flow freely."

Drivers are being warned against driving through fords on flooded roads.

The Environment Agency’s floodline is 0845 988 1188.
