A WOMAN has been taken to hospital after she was involved in a collision with a car in Worcester city centre today.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene in Union Street, off Friar Street, about 10.10am.

The road was closed for about four hours.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said an ambulance and incident support officer were dispatched to the scene.

"A woman believed to be 65-years-old, a pedestrian, was in a collision with a car driven by another elderly lady," said the spokesman.

"The woman was under the car and she suffered left leg injuries.

"We treated her at the scene and took her to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further treatment."

A police spokeswoman confirmed the silver Mercedes involved in the collision was driven by a female.

She said nobody had been arrested but added an investigation will now follow.

Any witnesses to the incident are being asked to call police on 08457 444888, quoting the reference 177S/050908.
