THREE people were taken to hospital following a four-car smash on the M5 in Worcestershire.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the northbound carriage way of the M5 between junctions 5 at Droitwich and 6 at Worcester about 1.45pm today.

Three ambulances, an incident support officer, and a rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival at the scene crews found four cars which had been involved in a collision.

“The driver and passenger of one car, a man and a woman believed to be in their 30s, suffered back injuries.

“The passenger of a second car, a woman believed to be in her 20s, also suffered a back injury.

“Crews treated the man and two women at the scene and they were all immobilised using neck collars and spinal boards.

“Two of the patients were transferred by land ambulance to Worcestershire Royal Hospital and the third patient was taken to Alexandra Hospital in Redditch for further assessment and treatment.”

The spokesman said the occupants of the other two cars involved in the collision were assessed at the scene by crews but did not require hospital treatment.
