Police issue flooded roads warning

MOTORISTS are being told not to drive through flooded roads and fords.
While West Mercia Constabulary said the floods were "nowhere near as bad" as those experienced in July last year, motorists are being advised against driving their vehicles through flooded roads or fords as it is often impossible to judge how the deep the water is.
A police spokesman also warned pedestrians against walking through flooded areas and urged parents to stop children from playing in floodwater, which can become contaminated with sewage and chemicals.
Chief Superintendent Viv Howells said: "We are continuing to monitor the situation and are liaising closely with our partner organisations.
"Some localised flooding is being experienced and there is a large amount of surface water on the roads. However, there is no cause for major concern."
Flood barriers have been put up on the river Serven at Worcester, Upton-upon-Severn and Bewdley as a precaution.
