STUDENTS at the University of Worcester are among the happiest in the country, according to a new survey.
The university, currently building a new city centre campus, is ranked among the top five new universities in England for providing student satisfaction, having scored 4.1 out of five in the 2008 national student survey.
The results follow news that Worcester is growing in popularity faster than any other university in Britain, and performance indicators show it is beating government benchmarks for retaining its students and taking in those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
University vice-chancellor Professor David Green put the impressive rating down to the institution’s high level of student support and ethos that encourages the development of well-rounded individuals.
Professor Green said: “Measuring student satisfaction is becoming increasingly important as many students and their parents have to carefully weigh up the benefits of higher education against the cost.
“It is clear from these results that students are still very happy with their experience of studying at Worcester.
“But we are not complacent – we will be working hard to ensure that current and future students feel fully satisfied in all aspects of their time at the university.”
The survey put Worcester above top-rated institutions such as Bristol, Manchester and Edinburgh universities.
It was judged on a range of areas by its current students, from standards of teaching and learning resources to facilities and student support.
