NURSES from Worcestershire Royal Hospital are putting their best feet forward in aid of a cancer charity this month.
Nine nurses who work in the hospital’s outpatients department, and live throughout the county, will be joining a sponsored walk on the Malvern Hills to support Cancer Research UK on Saturday, October 18, at 10am.
This will be the 10th year the walk has taken place, and there is a choice of a three, five or nine-mile route.
Sister Alison Davis, who lives at Lickey End, near Bromsgrove, said: “We all work together and never seem to be able to spend time together socially so we have all decided to do this walk, and it will be great fun and we will benefit a cause that is close to everyone’s heart as well.”
She added: “Working in a hospital environment means we are always aware of the impact cancer can have on families and many of us have personal reasons for supporting Cancer Research UK as they have someone close to them who has been affected.
“We hope that by urging others to join this 10th Cancer Research UK walk across the Malvern Hills we will really be able to make a difference.”
Ray Worth, chairman of the local fund-raising committee organising the walk, added: “We want to encourage everyone who would like to join in to register.
“We have people who have supported us every year and we are indebted to them for their continued support.
“Last year the walk raised more than £7,000 and over the last nine years has raised more than £52,000.
“It just proves how much people enjoy it and we hope that this year being our 10th we will be able to welcome many new faces.
“We always have lots of family groups and there’s a great atmosphere,” he added.
