IT was disappointing to see our unbeaten run come to an end but Worcester City are still well-placed in the league.

The carrot of getting into fifth place, for 24 hours at least, with victory against Team Bath on Monday was a good incentive for us. But we know it’s important we get over it and get something at Maidenhead on Saturday.

It was our first defeat in eight Blue Square South games and if we lose one game in every eight until the end of the season, I will be jumping for joy. Teams have blips, Team Bath won their first four or five games of the season and then only picked up one point in the next three.

We will regroup in training and get ready to try and continue our excellent away record at Maidenhead.

The chairman was speaking to me after the game on Monday and said that, away from home, we have only conceded three goals and that’s a massive achievement.

We don’t go to teams and put 10 players behind the ball. People know we are not a negative side, we try and win games. We don’t please every supporter but I don’t think you ever will.

My friends from Southampton saw the Havant and Waterlooville victory last Saturday and said the way we played was refreshing.

I would like the sort of money Havant have because everybody knows our wage bill isn’t the biggest in the league — but it’s about the players and characters you bring in.

It just proves what players can achieve if they put their minds to it.

The defeat on Monday was disappointing but when we look back, Team Bath were a very good side with fit players — that’s when the full-time element kicks in with two games in three days.

Danny McDonnell was a bit distraught about their first goal but it’s important he gets it out of his head because he’s been fantastic. Even after the goal he came out to punch the ball and made some saves.

We looked a bit disjointed in the last 10 or 15 minutes and some players looked tired.

Even Rob Davies, who is very fit, looked fatigued and sometimes you’ve got to hold your hands up and say we were beaten fair and square.

Jemiah Richards came in for Jon Richardson and did well. Jemiah is totally different to Jon but I know he will do a job for us. Jemiah has the chance to prove that we don’t have to bring in any more defenders if Jon and Ollie Barnes get injured.

Jon has been suffering with a virus that has been through the camp. We are trying to work out what it is. We are sending people home as soon as they feel unwell but the damage seems to have been done before symptoms show.

We are trying to change water bottles so everyone has their own but hopefuly everything will soon be OK.
