A MAN has been disqualified from driving after he was in a crash with a motorcyclist and caused the rider significant injury.

Paul Callaghan was leaving Evesham golf club after drinking four pints of lager when his car was in collision with the motorcycle.

The biker suffered a broken arm, two broken legs, a fractured pelvis and dislocated breast bone in the accident. A breath test revealed Callaghan had 53mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

Julie Rosamond, prosecuting, said: “Mr Callaghan said he had driven out of the golf club and checked in both directions. He said the motorbike appeared out of nowhere and he then heard a loud bang.” Callaghan, aged 48, admitted drink-driving when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court.

The accident happened on Wednesday, October, 8, at 8.30pm on the A44 Fladbury to Pershore road.

Paul Stanley, defending, said: “He is a man who is due to be made redundant next month. Two days before the accident he had gone to his doctor for medication for stress. He is extremely sorry for his part in what has taken place.”

Callaghan, of Hornsby Avenue, Warndon Villages, Worcester, was disqualified from driving for 16 months.

He was also fined £350 and ordered to pay £60 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
