A WORCESTER family taking part in an energy saving experiment said it is easy to see how peoples’ bills are so expensive.

Jody Bate said he decided to use the wireless energy monitor to see what happened when he turned on a number of appliances at the same time.

Mr Bate, of Albany Terrace, off Upper Tything, whose family is taking part in the Switch it Off campaign backed by your Worcester News, said: “I’m looking at the meter and I don’t like it going over two pence an hour.

“Last night I put on the kettle, oven, some lights, dishwasher and things like that which a normal family would have running at the same time and that went straight up to 40 pence per hour.”

Mr Bate, who has two sons Elliott, aged two, and Harrison, aged one, said although that might not sound a lot to some people it is easy to see how bills get so expensive.

“If you have got a big family and you run a few things together and leave lights on things could be running at £1 an hour,” he said.

Mr Bate said some of the family’s habits have changed as a result and added he was thinking about getting rid of the remaining halogen lights in the house because of how much energy they use.
