SIZZLING cookery skills have landed a talented young chef a top job at one of Gordon Ramsey’s European restaurants.

Chef Sarah Sheen, aged 21, has been given a job at the television cook’s Maze restaurant in Prague after proving she can stand the heat not once but twice.

Sarah, of Honeyman’s Gardens, Droitwich, is flying out to the Czech Republic next month to take up a dream job as a demi chef de partie, based in the city’s prestigious Hilton Hotel.

The talented cook got the job after impressing chefs in a day-long practical interview in the restaurant’s kitchen.

She said: “I’m getting nervous. I worked a day in the kitchen before but it’s not the same when you’re there 24 hours – although I’m too excited to be thinking about any of that, to be honest.”

The former St Mary’s Convent School pupil got the cooking bug at her mother’s apron strings and completed a two-year hospitality and cookery course at Worcestershire College of Technology.

She then impressed on an internship to the United States in 2006, when she learnt advanced culinary skills including ice sculpting.

It was through the trip her details were passed to bosses at the Maze restaurant in London, where she was offered a job following a one-day trial.

But rather than accept the job, Sarah opted to travel to its sister restaurant in Prague, where she again impressed.

She said: “ I’ll be working in the larder section on things such as the cold starters, garnishes and tasty meat terrines.

“There are English chefs and Australians working so it’s going to be really cosmopolitan.”

Sarah’s proud mother Jayne said: “I’m very excited for her. It’s a huge opportunity so I told her to go for it, you cannot not take up something like this up.

“I’m going to miss her, but it’s only an hour-and-a-half away on the plane.”
