Celebrating beauty of countryside at service

A SINGING celebration of the countryside will take place on Wednesday.

The Countryside Alliance Carols for our Countryside service will take place at St Andrews Church, Ombersley.

Audrey Steel, Worcestershire county chairman for the CA said: “A carol service to celebrate the riches of our countryside at Christmas is a wonderful opportunity.

“The countryside is about communities and the people in them so what better way to reflect on what we have, to give comfort to those in crisis and to look to the future positively than by getting together during the festive season.

“We hope that everyone in Worcestershire will join us to celebrate the wonderful countryside and rural communities we all love so much.”

Following the service, which starts at 7.30pm, Christmas refreshments will be available.

There will be a collection in aid of the Addington Fund and the Help for Heroes charity.

It is the height of hypocrisy and deeply offensive that the church hosts a service for a bloodsports organisation. The self styled Countryside Alliance represents barbaric cruelty in the name of 'sport' and is the antithesis of the teachings of the Christian faith and the message of the Gospels. Shame on whoever agreed to this.

Ha ,,, well said Mike398, the Alliance are a morally corrupt organisation.. I suppose it makes sense to join up with the church as they are not much better.
Didn't Jesus go on about not killing things? There is quite strong evidence that Jesus was a vegetarian, so boo to all those Christians who support blood sports and like eating meat. Nasty lot.

Hmmm... it does seem to be an inappropriate association. What gets me is the discrepancy on their Web site where on the one hand they say "More people participate in country pursuits than the combined total for rugby, athletics and hockey. Rural pursuits such as falconry, hunting, fishing, shooting and ferreting are more popular than ever." And on the other hand “Your countryside hides crime behind a picturesque landscape… steps should be taken to prevent youth crime, including the development of innovative facilities and activities to prevent boredom in towns and villages.” So why are the countryside youth bored? Could it have something to do with participation in country pursuits being restricted to a select and elitist group? Unlike track and team sports, perhaps?
That’s quite apart from their “The Hunting Act must be repealed because it is unworkable, illiberal and bad for animal welfare” which I fundamentally disagree with (and I’m from a farming background).
