Wychbold Women's Institute

OUR annual meeting was held on November 10 in Wychbold Village Hall with president Pat Tonks in the chair and WI advisers Doreen Jeaves and Anne Meredith in attendance.

Secretary Beryl Smith recalled the occasion of our establishment’s 21st birthday celebration in October. It had been attended by Joyce Harrison, one of the founder members, accompanied by her daughter Hilary Stephens.

Members had provided a delicious tea and we had been entertained by Audrey Kansker, the well-known longtime member of the Bromsgrove Amateur Operatic Society, giving a lively presentation of Songs From The Shows.

Dot Waldron, minute secretary, reported on the autumn council meeting in Stourport. Sara Picken, treasurer, presented the financial report, which was adopted. WIA Anne Meredith spoke about the National Memorial Arboretum. Our members’ Competition Cup was presented to the winner – Peggy Mears.

The election of president followed a vote of thanks by Pat Kay to the retiring president Pat Tonks, and Dot Waldron was declared the new president for the year ahead.

The first meeting of 2009 will be on Monday, January 12. In the meantime we send our Christmas greetings to all our friends and neighbours.
