CYCLING star Liam Killeen called in to talk to primary school pupils in Worcester keen on keeping active.

Youngsters at Stanley Road Primary School showed the Commonwealth Games medal winner around their new play equipment.

The outdoor wooden low trail costing £2,500 was bought with money raised by the school’s PTA and chosen by the children.

During lunch play times the equipment has been proving popular with the primary school’s 270 pupils who were keen to show their healthy credentials to the superfit cyclist. Anne Potter, headteacher, said: “He gave us a card saying we were ‘doing a great job’.

“He’s a great athlete and comes from Malvern but had stopped off at the school in the middle of a training session.

“All the children knew who he was and that he had won bronze in the Commonwealth Games in 2002 and competed in the Beijing Olympic Games this year.”

She said Mr Killeen had praised the school, which has healthy schools status, for keeping the fun in its fitness activities.
