WORCESTERSHIRE County Council’s expertise at tackling climate change will be shared with local authorities from all around the country next month.
Around 70 authorities will make the trip to County Hall, in Worcester, for the special event on Thursday, January 8.
The council is a Beacon Authority for Tackling Climate Change (2008-09) and the topics on the agenda include sustainable construction, reducing CO2 emissions and climate change adaptation The day will include talks and workshops about a variety of related subjects.
Elizabeth Alston, Sustainability Officer at Worcestershire County Council, said: “Earlier this year, we won Beacon Authority status for our work to tackle climate change. We hope that this event will provide a great opportunity to share what we’ve done in Worcestershire and learn about the experiences of other local authorities.”
Beacon status is awarded to local authorities that show particular innovation and national best practice in a particular area of work.
Worcestershire County Council has a national reputation for its work in areas such as energy efficiency, environmental education, sustainable construction and household waste minimisation.
It also uses locally-sourced wood fuel for its County Hall heating system and constructed one of the country’s first ‘climate-resilient’ school buildings.
