PET-LOVERS are being asked if they can find a place in their hearts for a cute but homeless furry animal.

Houdini is a pedigree grey chinchilla and currently beds down at the JustForPets store at the Shrub Hill Retail Estate, Tallow Hill, Worcester.

The four-year-old’s previous owners were forced to gave him up because of ill health and he has been at the pet superstore ever since, where he has been looked after by members of staff.

Houdini – affectionately known as Munch – was born with conjunctivitis affecting his tear ducts which means he needs daily treatment with eye drops.

Kirsty Morris, deputy store manager, said: “He’s a small chinchilla with a big personality but he needs someone with patience who can help with his life-long medical problem.

“He likes to have a lot of play time and spends most of his time hopping in and out of his cage, which is open most of the day so that he can explore.”

Chincillas are nocturnal animals and Houdini would be ideal for someone experienced with the breed but unsuitable for a home with young children.

The new owner will receive a cage for Houdini to live in with toys and accessories but will be asked to make a donation to the pet store’s charities.
