Monsoons Part 1

Monsoons are land and ocean winds covering a large area, they produced by contrasting and changing pressure patterns. The monsoon which affects Asia is well known to us all. During the winter months a huge anticyclone forms over Asia with subsiding dry air which accompanies high pressure. The climatic condition is settled with winds blowing away from the coasts.

During the summer season the land heats up faster than the sea causing the high pressure to weaken allowing the wind to change direction. This filters in moist air from off the sea into Asia. The onset of the summer monsoon is usually rapid and dramatic, creating torrential prolonged rainstorms and many inches of rain.
