We have received incredible support for Joanna’s trust

A TRUST set up in memory of a former Malvern schoolgirl who fell to her death while walking in Siberia has raised thousands of pounds.

Thirty-year-old Joanna Brown had travelled with a friend to the Beijing Olympics before heading to Mongolia and on to Siberia, where the accident happened on Monday, August 25.

Since her death the Joanna Brown Trust, which aims to provide sporting equipment and encourage people to experience activities, has raised £15,000 and the money has bought her rowing club in London a new women’s eight-man boat.

Her brother Richard Brown said: “It has been incredible the support we have received.

“The article in the Worcester News triggered a chain of events that have benefited the trust.

“One of my mum’s friends, who lives in Cornwall, happened to be in Malvern and read the piece about Jo watching Zac Purchase winning a gold medal at the Olympics. She has managed to get signed photographs of Zac and his partner Mark Hunter.”

Mr Brown, of Norham Place, Warndon Villages, Worcester, said these pictures and a signed shirt will be auctioned at a later date.

The rowing boat will be given to the Poplar Blackwall and District Rowing Club on Sunday, March 1, when it will be named Jo Brown and raced in a specially-organised Greenwich head of the river competition.

As well as holding events, friends of the former Dyson Perrins pupil have created a cook book full of recipes Miss Brown had cooked for them.

With each recipe there is a short story about why the meal has been included.

The chef from Miss Brown’s favourite restaurant in London, Piccolinos, and the owner of a veg box scheme have also contributed a cook book.

The trust is asking for a £5 minimum donation for the cookbook, which can be bought by e-mailing info@thejoannabrowntrust.org. To find out more about the trust, visit thejoannabrowntrust.org.
