SCHOOLBOYS have been mixing martial arts and performing arts after taking a dance workshop.
Youngsters at Nunnery Wood High School in Spetchley Road, Worcester, boys were schooled in the art of capoeira, a form of dance mixing movement and martial arts widely associated with Brazil.
The teenagers also tried out free-running, which has boomed in popularity in recent years and where participants move around urban often heavily built-up enviroments, jumping, running and at more accomplished levels using flips and somersaults.
More than 70 teenagers were involved in the workshop and from those six boys were selected to represent the school at a county dance workshop, working with youngsters from other schools to create a dance piece.
The school has been promoting dance this year, particularly to boys, in line with the PE national curriculum with three clubs for different age groups.
So successful has the dance drive been that Nunnery Wood will host its first dance show entitled A Night at the Movies where more than 90 pupils will perform dances to popular movie soundtracks such as Dirty Dancing, Night Fever and Grease on Wednesday, March 18.
