THREE injured birds of prey have been nursed back to health.
Staff at the Bromyard Veterinary Surgery have been caring for a buzzard, a tawny owl and a kestrel which were found by members of the public.
The buzzard had a dislocated shoulder, the owl had a broken leg and the kestrel had suffered a head injury – leaving her blind in one eye and with reduced movement in one foot. Practice manager Kerry Flamank said that after treatment the future looks bright for all of the birds.
It is hoped the owl and the buzzard, which were found in the Leominster area, will be released back into the wild.
The kestrel will stay with Mrs Flamank and her husband Martin, who is a vet and also has an interest in falconry.
Mrs Flamank said: “She would never see well enough to hunt so we are keeping her and the hope is we will be able to take her flying. She has just started her lessons flying to hand and is progressing well.”
The owl and the buzzard are expected to be transferred to the International Centre for Birds of Prey in Newent, Gloucestershire, where they will continue their recovery.
