I felt sick for days over what I found in my Pot Noodle

A DISABLED woman from Worcester said she felt sick after eating a fast food snack and finding what she thought was two false nails in the product.

Mary Tyler as half way through eating her favourite instant snack of a chicken and mushroom Pot Noodle when she found the foreign objects inside.

“They were dark and I think it was a false nail, but it could be a bit of plastic off a machine,” she said.

“But I just felt sick and for four days it made me feel really ill. But what also worried me is that I keep Pot Noodles in my cupboard for my grandchildren for when they come round, and if it had been them eating it, they could have choked on it.”

The 62-year-old, who lives on Glenthorne Avenue, Brickfields said she was disappointed.

“I had bought a pack of four and the other three were perfect. But this was just horrible. Pot Noodles are quick and easy to make and we love eating them. But I’m not sure I will buy them now,” she said.

Mrs Tyler, who has breathing problems, has to walk with a stick and is diabetic, contacted Pot Noodle to complain about what she had found at the end of January.

The company has promised to send her some vouchers as compensation, which she is yet to receive.

She said: “I am happy with what they offered me, but I’m just upset that it happened in the first place. It just made me feel very sick and put me off my food.”

A Pot Noodle spokesman said they were saddened to hear what had happened.

“We produce Pot Noodle to the highest of standards and have rigorous quality checks in place throughout the production process as company protocol. We therefore take any claims that may arise very seriously and issue full investigations where necessary. We are looking into the complaint and have offered a goodwill gesture to the customer,” he said.

I also once found some alien objects in a Pot Noodle, but they just turned out to be the only bits that were edible!

I just hope that there weren't any fingers attached to those nails.

This woman should have contacted Trading Standards who would have carried out the necessary investigations and tested the foriegn bodies found to ensure that the items had been in the container when the food was processed. Trading Standards would then contact the food manufacturer and commence the necessary legal proceedings which can result in huge fines.
Many people prefer to contact the manufacturer direct in the mistaken belief that they will get lots of freebies by way of compensation for what they have claimed to have found in the product.
Food manufacturing and processing is an industry that is inundated daily with many complaints from people about the products they produce. This is known within the industry as the "treasure trail" as people think they will get loads of compensation by complaining.
I get the feeling that this woman has now contacted the WN as she is disappointed in the response from the manufacturer (i.e. not got the freebies she thought she was going to get) and is trying to stir things up.
Having spent forty years in the processing and packaging industry I know that a food processor will take every possible safeguard and precaution to prevent the product from becoming contaminated and that genuine contamination is indeed a very very rare occurence.

Yes Varien, I also felt this was another of those 'contact the WN and get people to feel sorry for me and I might get something out of it' stories. Not sure why she's bothered about a bit of plastic when these are the other ingredients - now that is scary!

I have seen plastic like that before - it comes from the handle of some cheap cutlery. It probably fell off when the pot noodle was being prepared (it has happened to me)recently.

We had a foreign object in a food item a couple of weeks ago and took it and the remainder of the product to environmental health. Somehow I forgot to leak this story to the local press - shame on me!
