A DOG club in Worcester is looking for people who can teach bad canines to behave.

Training disobedient dogs is no mean feat, which is why the North Worcester Dog Training Club is looking for experienced teachers who can help take the pressure off its current trainer who is cutting back to concentrate on a degree.

The club runs classes at St Joseph’s RC Primary School in Warndon, Worcester, every Thursday night and provides much-needed support for dog owners having trouble with man’s best friend.

Elaine Mortimer, of Droitwich, runs the puppy class. She joined five years ago to train rehomed puppy Stan.

“I wanted a challenge and that’s certainly what I got,” she said.

“He was driving me insane. We couldn’t go out without him having a go at other dogs.

“It was the support from the club that made such a difference.

“It was hard for the first six months, but I can honestly say I would not still have Stan if it wasn’t for this club.”

Andrea Jordan, who has worked with dogs for 20 years, has been the club’s main trainer for four years but is now taking a break to concentrate on her university studies.

The club’s Pauline Bayliss said: “We have two trainers but unfortunately one of those is taking a university course and therefore cannot commit to Thursday nights.

“We are looking for someone with some level of experience in dog training and reasonable knowledge of dog behaviour and various methods of training.”

She said the club, which was established about 30 years ago to help owners understand and control their pets, has three classes – puppies, beginners and intermediate.
