A “TRUE gentleman” of politics across the two counties has died at the age of 94.

William (Bill) Thornycroft was a member of the old Hereford & Worcester County Council for two decades after being elected in 1973.

He represented the areas of Wribbenhall and Arley until 1985, when the division became Cookley, Wolverley and Wribbenhall. He retired from county politics in 1993.

Current Wyre Forest county councillor Stephen Clee said: “Bill was a formidable politician and had a very good memory.

“He was a true gentleman of politics and was much liked and respected by members of all parties. He played a very active role in politics and helped shape our polices in Wyre Forest over many years. He will be greatly missed.”

A service of thanksgiving will be held on Monday, March 16 at St Peters Church, Arley, beginning at 2pm.
