THE wonders of electricity and problem solving have been explored by pupils at a Worcester primary school.

Children at Fairfield Community Primary School in Carnforth Drive, Brickfields, Worcester, took part in the Feel the Power Day as part of their studies.

Six and seven year olds were busy teaching their parents how to make a circuit, make a lighthouse, print a butterfly picture and use information and communication technology (ICT) on the day.

The children had spent the previous six weeks investigating a book called The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch by David Armitage.

Stephen Murphy, curriculum leader at the school, said: “The outstanding classroom practice has meant that all the primary subjects have been explored through this story with electricity in science, such as making a circuit and problem solving in numeracy, for example, can you guide the lighthouse keeper through the rocks?

“They have used laptops, programmable toys, paint, glue and clay to explore every aspect of the story through every subject in the curriculum. The afternoon was a way of showing the parents the children’s success and helping the children realise what they had learned.

“At Fairfield we believe learning must be an event – something you will remember forever.”

Headteacher David Coache said: “This kind of event is fantastic.

“It shows how hard the children and teachers have been working at our new world-class curriculum.”
