Hospital regarded as one of the best to work at

STAFF at Worcestershire Royal Hospital have said it is one of the best healthcare organisations to work for in the country in an independent survey.

Staff at the Royal, Kidderminster Hospital and the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch voted on a national poll, placing their trust in the “Healthcare 100”, a list of the top places to work in the country.

The poll was carried out for two national magazines – the Nursing Times and Health Service Journal – by independent pollsters Ipsos MORI.

The ranking is based on a weighted analysis of all questions in an employee survey as well as the responses given in the online employer survey.

It covers NHS and private sector healthcare providers and includes acute trusts, PCTs, mental health and ambulance trusts.

The citation about the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust which manages all three hospitals reads: “This trust has low staff turnover and an excellent recruitment record, helped by attention to staff needs such as employing an adviser to assist those with caring responsibilities. Staff say there are always challenges but the trust provides a very supportive environment.”

The trust is not aware of where it came within the top 100 - only the places of the 20 top organisations are published.

But 225 organisations were involved in the survey.

Trust chief executive John Rostill said: “I am particularly delighted that we have made it on to this list because our success comes as a result of our own staff saying that our hospitals are good places to work.

“In a similar poll last year, in which voting was restricted to nursing staff only, we also made the top 100."

Good news at last. If staff are more than satisfied, that must surely mean patients get even better care and treatment. Which in the end is what we all want.
