MONEY is being raised by Worcester school pupils in aid of a city hospice for life-limited children.

Pupils at Nunnery Wood High School in Spetchley Road have been busy fundraising for the Acorns Children’s Hospice, which has a centre in Bath Road.

Christina Reynolds, food technology teacher at the school, said: “We decided we wanted to raise some money for local children.

“We had a school assembly for year 11 children and someone from the Acorns hospice came to talk to them about the work they do.

“From there we decided to do some fund-raising activities so we held a non-uniform day across the school. We have also been going around with charity collection boxes for Acorns.

“Some of the children also brought in some of their loose change coin collections from home to donate, so they were really generous.

“At our annual Easter fair being held later this month, the proceeds are going towards the hospice.”

So far, £1,300 has been raised.

Sophie James, Worcestershire fund-raiser for Acorns, said: “We are thrilled and delighted to receive this donation from Nunnery Wood High School.

“It is a fantastic amount and the school showed how easy it is to think of fun ways to raise money for Acorns.

The donation will help our Fragile Lives appeal, which aims to see us through the current recession and protect children’s hospice care for the future.”

At the beginning of March, Acorns was forced to launch a survival appeal to see it through the recession after a drop in funds had forced the charity to make cost savings.

The Acorns Fragile Lives Appeal aims to secure the future of children’s hospice care across the heart of England and sees supporters doing all they can throughout the year to raise funds and awareness.
