YOUNGSTERS have been recognised for their efforts at a special awards ceremony.
More than 100 young people from across Worcestershire were nominated to receive one of the county council’s Tryangle Awards, which aim to celebrate the efforts of youngsters aged 11 to 19 who try – often with little recognition – to do their best.
Twenty-one individuals or groups, three in each of seven categories, were announced as this year’s unsung heroes by the youth support service at a presentation ceremony at Worcester Rugby Club.
County councillor Liz Eyre, the cabinet member for children and young people, said: “The quality of this year’s nominations was excellent.
“Thank you to all those people who provided us with nominations and the nominees themselves.
“By choosing to hold these awards once again we have given young people in Worcestershire, who may find themselves in the shadow of high fliers, the chance to shine.”
Twenty-one individuals or groups, three in each of seven categories, were celebrated at the ceremony on Thursday, March 12. Winners were presented with a Tryangle Award, while all nominees received personal certificates.
The categories for the awards, which are in their fourth year, were for personal development, bravery, personal achievement in the arts, personal achievement in music, personal achievement in sport or outdoor activities, good friends and carers and citizenship and environment.
Councillor Alwyn Davies, chairman of Worcestershire County Council, opened the ceremony and was joined by Robbie Porter, chairman of the Worcestershire Racial Equality Council, Steve Brewster from the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Sports Partnership and representatives from West Mercia Constabulary, Connexions and the Worcestershire Council for Voluntary Youth Services (WCVYS).
