We’re unhappy with these new wind farm plans

STRONG opposition has met with plans linked to proposals to build a wind farm on the edge of Worcestershire.

Residents and members of the Strensham Wind Action Group (SWAG), along with Strensham Parish Council, West Worcestershire MP Sir Michael Spicer, as well as his potential successors Harriett Baldwin and Richard Burt, have all lodged objections.

Wind Prospects Ltd has submitted an application to Wychavon District Council to build an access track and cable trench on land south of Wooshill Road and west of upper Strensham to service a proposed “wind energy development” on neighouring land just over the Gloucestershire border.

People living nearby say a proper decision on that cannot be made when any application for a wind farm has not yet been submitted.

They have concerns about converting a farm track and bridleway into a busy road and the impact that will have on the surrounding rural area.

They also have questions over the viability of a wind farm in that location and are also worried about the fact they will not have any direct input into any wind farm application because the final decision will rest with Tewkesbury Borough Council.

Rod Wood, of SWAG, said: “There is no benefit for the local community if this application is allowed to proceed. The proposed wind farm is in the borough of Tewkesbury but the major impact will be felt in Wychavon and Malvern Hills.

“It will spoil the rural aspect and amenity and also that of the nearby AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) – Bredon Hill.”

Jonathan Edwards, Wychavon District Council’s development control manager, said a date for when a decision will be made on the access track and cable trench application has not yet been decided.

“It will have to go to one of our planning committee meetings,” he said.

Mr Edwards said the earliest it could go before the committee is on Thursday, April 30.

can someone please advise how efficient these wind farms are before they're foisted on us all, the look awful and if they aren't efficient then surely they're a waste of time? The wind has to be a certain speed, and too fast doesn't cut it. What should be looked into are solar panels, much more efficient even in this country - some even work on daylight - how many rooves have we got in the UK? So no problem except to the electricity companies who's have to pay house-holders for eny excess power

There are proposals to build 1000's of house on my doorstep. Give me a wind farm any day over that. We need to be backing clean, renewable forms of energy.

so waht's wrong with solar? Wind power ain't as effecient as it's made out to be

Wind Farms only normally produce about 2.5% of their max power, as the wind does not blow constantly, or at a constant rate. They therefore need Nuclear (or coal-fired) Power Stations to cover the time when they are not working - or the lights go out and all the machines stop! It's a simple as that.

They are also a dreadful and useless eyesore!

Nice to see Sir. Michael putting his head above the parapet! Perhaps he could also persuade David Cameron to take us out of the EU?

It depends whether they want all the UK votes or not, I suppose!

You are so right Common Sense. The lights will certainly go out, since this inept government has looked up it's own backside in future fuel provision. We have Nuclear power stations coming to the end of their lives, with no new Nuclear policy in place, and new plants will take 5 to 10 or more years to build and come on line. Yes there should be a Solar panel policy in place, or we can carry on being tied to Russia for our gas, and France for our electric, which is generated by nuclear power. So am I to rejoice at the wisdom of Blair and Browns years? We are going to suffer. The global economy is nothing compared with what lies ahead due to New Labour.

I have a lovely view from home. I would really object to cooling towers being built and dont' find the thought of a dozen windmills at all offensive.
Renewable energy isn't about just one technology it is about getting a selection and mixture. It's actually very simple, we either reduce the amount of energy we use or we invest in renewables. The time will come when we are held to ransom on energy unless we start producing more renewable sources.

Perhaps the NIMBYs would prefer to have a nuclear reactor build in their 'backyard' instead???
