A WALTZ was taught to Worcester pupils as a way to help them de-stress before their exams.
Dance teachers Eileen Hughes and Kay Poole, along with exhibition dancers Graham and Sue Evans visited Christopher Whitehead Language College to teach the skill to 15 and 16-year-olds.
Saira Archer, deputy headteacher at the school, said “The students also learned some key revision techniques as well as doing some aerobics, learning body combat and a traditional wrestling game from India as fun ways to relax and de-stress.”
The sessions were part of the school’s citizenship day where 12-year-olds found out about the environment.
In one session, they climbed inside an enormous ‘earth balloon’ to learn about climate change and population distributions.
The 11-year-olds also took a tour of the world, learning to cook traditional Indian dishes with top chefs from Pasha in St John’s, Worcester, and tried out traditional Irish dancing with a young team of Irish dancers from Kidderminster led by the school’s head of maths Eileen Crossey.
They also learned some traditional African drumming with Drumlove musicians and some martial arts.
Headteacher Neil Morris, who organised the day, said: “It is all part of bringing learning into the real world and giving our students a real audience. The skills that they have learned today are life-skills which prepare them for the future.”
