THOUSANDS of pounds were raised during a charity night in memory of former Malvern schoolgirl Joanna Brown.
The evening at Worcestershire County Cricket Club saw people bidding for sports memorabilia and other items during an auction, and listening to a talk by ex-England cricketer Dennis Amiss.
It raised £3,000 for the Joanna Brown Trust and the charity is now busy planning a wine tasting evening later this month.
“The auction was a great success, everyone had a thoroughly good evening,” said Richard Brown.
“The top selling items were the BMW Z4 for the weekend and a photo of the Team GB coxless 4s at the Athens Olympics winning gold signed by Matthew Pinsent, James Cracknell, Steve Williams and Ed Coode.”
The charity was set up in memory of Joanna Brown, a former student at Dyson Perrins Sports College, Malvern, who fell to her death in August last year while walking in Siberia.
It aims to provide sporting equipment and encourage people to experience activities, and this year donated a rowing boat to Miss Brown’s London rowing club.
Money raised from the latest event will go towards training nets at Barnards Green Cricket Club, and as a sign of support to the charity the club players have had the trust logo added to their team shirts.
On Friday, May 15, an evening of fine wine and international cuisine is being held at the Vale Golf Club in Bishampton at 7.15pm.
Tickets for the event cost £27.50 and include food and wine. Raffle tickets, with prizes including one week at a luxury villa in Lanzarote, are also available on the evening, and all proceeds will be donated to the trust.
