A WORCESTER primary school looked more like a corner of the American frontier or the great plains after a tipi was put up in the grounds. The 15ft structure was put up by children from Whittington CofE Primary School in Whittington, Worcester, inspired by real Native American designs.
The tipi is made from wood and is decorated with stencilled designs inspired by the world around them, including wildlife and horses. The project was led by Rebecca Newell, a fine artist, who has an eight-year-old daughter, Jemimah, at the school. Mrs Newell said she hoped the project would tie in with the Forest School project, an initiative to bring children into closer contact with nature.
She said: “We wanted to do something special. We had great fun doing it. The children were so excited, waiting for it to go up. It will most certainly last there for a while.”
