Charlie is following in Frank Sinatra’s footsteps

The 12-year-old Bishop Per-owne CofE College pupil performed 13 concerts in 13 cities, including Washington, Chicago and Las Vegas, in front of crowds of up to 4,000 screaming fans.

The tour has been hailed a great success with Charlie and his family, now back at home in Droitwich, mulling over a number of potentially lucrative offers.

Dad Roger Green said: “Charlie loved every minute of it. He went down so well over there.

“As soon as he came out on stage there were screams and when he went out into the audience he had to have security because they were trying to get to him; it was like Donny Osmond.

“For me as his dad it was a bit daunting.” Charlie and his dad flew out to America on Sunday, March 8, and one particular highlight of the tour was performing at the Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas.

“Charlie was singing on the same stage Frank Sinatra did years ago,” said Mr Green. “It was superb.”

Mr Green said Charlie got rave reviews for the way he performed swing songs and ballads alongside three other acts – Philippines star Sarah Geronimo, Mark Bautista and Billy Crawford – in a two-and-a-half hour show. He also had to take part in some promotional events, but had to turn down an offer to appear on the award-winning Ellen DeGeneres Show because he was too busy.

“He took his schoolwork with him so he didn’t ignore that,” said Mr Green. However, Mr Green said the family was now having to seriously consider other ways of educating Charlie because of the level of success he is enjoying.

“We are going to have talks with the authorities about that,” he said. “This is what he wants to do. You hear every day about the bad news and people losing their jobs and Charlie’s got a good chance of establishing a good career here.”

Mr Green said there are plans for Charlie to perform in San Francisco next month but said his son is not letting his success go to his head.

“He just enjoys performing,” he said. “He is quite grounded.”
