A WORCESTER dry-cleaners has been relaunched with a green theme.

The city’s former mayor, Coun Lucy Hodgson, re-launched Johnson Cleaners in Mealcheapen Street as an official ‘GreenEarth’ store using eco-friendly equipment.

The store is now under the ownership of Johnson Cleaners, the UK’s largest cleaning company.

The move follows a £35,000 re-fit by the firm, as part of a national £6 million programme to convert 150 of its stores to ‘GreenEarth’ by 2012.

The Worcester shop, which opened as a Sketchley store 20 years ago, was acquired by Johnson Cleaners as part of a major buy-out in 2004.

It now offers the latest eco-friendly cleaning technology for the first time, which is available for the same price as traditional dry cleaning but is proven to be kinder to clothes, skin and the environment.

Branch manager Yvette Laventine, who lives in Worcester, said: “It’s fantastic that we’ve been chosen to be an official Johnson Cleaners ‘Green Earth’ store.

“A lot of hard work has gone into refurbishing the branch and all our staff have received additional training on the benefits of using greener cleaning technology.”
