VANDALS who smashed a mural painted by a group of young people are being sought by police.

The mural was on part of a concrete panelled wall destroyed in Lido Park, Droitwich, during the weekend of June 20-21.

The wall had been decorated by a team from the Prince’s Trust, together with two artists who spent five days at the park as part of their community project and team challenge.

They were supported by students from Bromsgrove and Worcester colleges of technology, local police officers and the owner of the wall, which separates her garden from the park.

The damaged section will now need to be repaired and then repainted.

Community support officer Andrea Leslie said: “It was so nice to see local kids doing something positive for their area.

“They were really proud of their achievements.

“To see it damaged was very upsetting and I know that some of the kids involved are really upset and angry.

“A mindless few have ruined everyone’s hard work and we would like anyone who has any information about who may be responsible for vandalising the wall to please contact us.

“Thankfully, work is already under way to reinstate the wall to its original condition.”

The second phase of the mural – involving pupils of St Peter’s School and Droitwich High School painting scenes to represent autumn and winter – is expected to go ahead later this year.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to contact police on 0300 3333000, quoting incident 801/S/190609, or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
