Community cashback scheme for city projects

CASH from criminals is being offered to worthwhile community projects in Worcester.

Successful bids to the £4 million Community Cashback Scheme will show community involvement, demonstrate good value for money and be related in some way to tackling anti-social or criminal behaviour.

Vice Chair of the West Mercia Criminal Justice Board and chief crown prosecutor Colin Chapman said: “The criminal justice agencies in West Mercia are working together whenever possible to take money from criminals where it represents their proceeds of crime.

“The Community Cashback Scheme gives us an excellent opportunity to put some of that money right back into the communities from where it was taken. It also gives the West Mercia Criminal Justice Board a great opportunity to work more closely with those communities by giving them a voice in where this money is spent.”

Until now money recovered from criminals has been split between frontline services, such as the police and government departments involved with the criminal justice system.
