Council against gypsy caravan site plan

A CROWD of about 200 residents turned out to hear Leigh and Bransford Parish Council vote against contentious plans for a gypsy caravan site .

The meeting, at the Memorial Hall on Tuesday gave local residents the chance to voice their objections to the proposals that would see 10 mobile homes, 10 utility dayrooms and 10 touring caravans on land off Lower Howsell Road in Leigh Sinton.

Parish council chairman Martin Gloster said: “We recommended refusal of the application with two main concerns. There is a green gap between Leigh Sinton and Malvern Link and we have always tried to maintain that gap, and we’re very aware of the junction of the Malvern Road with the A4103.

“We’re going to have extra traffic coming up there from the Malvern Vale development and with another 10 sites potentially in Leigh Sinton, it’s only going to make matters worse.”

Coun Gloster said the basis of the refusal was not the applicants themselves. He said: “The parish council looks at it as a planning application not about who applies for it.”

Maggie Smith-Bendell, liaison officer with the Romani Gypsy Advisory Group, which assisted in the application, said: “This is the normal thing that happens. We are waiting for it to come to committee.”

The matter will be decided by Malvern Hills District Council later this year.
