A YOUNG singer from Worcester with a passion for soul and blues music will perform on BBC Songs of Praise this weekend.
It will be the third time Lexie Stobie, aged 18, has appeared on the television show. Her performance of the well-known hymn The Lord is my Shepherd was recently recorded in Bristol and will be broadcast on BBC One this Sunday.
Miss Stobie has been making waves on the Worcestershire music scene with a voice that belies her age.
In 2006 she entered the BBC Radio 2 Young Chorister of the Year, and was the first non-chorister to make it through to the finals in Westminster Abbey.
Through the contest she met BBC producer Garry Boon and, in 2007, was given the chance to perform a self-penned track on Songs of Praise.
“It is a privilege to be appearing on Songs Of Praise again,” said Miss Stobie.
“It was great to work with Garry Boon for the second time. I feel extremely lucky to have had this opportunity and am grateful for all their support.”
Miss Stobie, who is a worship leader at All Saints Church in Deansway, has previously released two albums of Christian music and is now concentrating on writing her own material with broader appeal, mixing her love of blues and soul.
Earlier this year she travelled to Nashville, USA, where she met music industry professionals and had the opportunity to co-write material with American songwriters. She hopes to return in the autumn.
“I had an amazing time in Nashville this April, meeting lots of musically gifted people,” she said.
“It was a jam-packed week, with lots to do, people to meet and things to see, but I enjoyed every minute and am itching to go back and write more songs.”

Songs of Praise starts at 5pm on Sunday.
