Drunk woman stripped off in hospital waiting room

A WOMAN who stripped off in a hospital waiting room was taking medication after suffering a miscarriage.

Kym Stewart was in Worcestershire Royal Hospital’s accident and emergency department when she made a scene.

Her behaviour, which entailed screaming and shouting in front of other patients including young children, was so bad that nurses put screens up around the 24-year-old to stop her upsetting other members of the public.

Stewart, of Bays Meadow, Droitwich, admitted being drunk and disorderly and branded her own behaviour “disgraceful”.

Sarah Stock, prosecuting at Worcester Magistrates Court, said the incident happened at about 9am on Monday, June 29, when police got a call from an A&E nurse complaining of a patient in the waiting room.

“They reported the woman was causing a disturbance, screaming, shouting and removing her clothing,” she said.

“The nurses had to use screens to prevent the other patients being subjected to the state of Miss Stewart.”

She said that staff were taken away from other tasks to help Stewart re-dress herself on two occasions.

On arrival, the police heard her “screaming”.

When they approached her behind the screens, however, she was slumped in a chair with her trousers not fully pulled up and “lethargic”.

Officers arrested her for being drunk and disorderly, with Stewart admitting she had had a drink despite being on medication.

“I was on diazepam and zolpidem to help me,” Stewart told the court.

She explained that her partner had been unwell and she had accompanied him to hospital, but admitted because of the prescription drugs she had been taking, “I should not have been out anywhere”.

Stewart told the court that two days before the incident she had miscarried.

“I was going to have a termination but the day before I lost it,” she said.

“There is no excuse for what I did because the hospital had helped me. It was disgraceful.”

Stewart, who said she had made a donation to the hospital since the incident, was fined £35, ordered to pay £60 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
