PEOPLE are once again complaining about noisy low-flying aircraft circling over Worcester.

Earlier this year defence chiefs confirmed that essential military training exercises were taking place in the region and would carry on for the foreseeable future. Yesterday, your Worcester News received a number of calls from readers frustrated that the droning planes, believed to be C-130 Hercules or Britten Norman Islanders, were back.

Chris Romer, of Ombersley, said: “I appreciate that it is vital to our country’s security to carry out tests and trials of equipment, but would query why this cannot be carried out over sea or sparsely populated areas.”

Mr Romer said the plane had been circling over Ombersley for the past week. Brian Ely, of London Road in Worcester, said the frequency of the engine noise upset his tinnitus – a condition which causes a high pitched ringing in the ears.

He said: “It seems to be an invisible plane because we can’t spot it anywhere, but it must be low flying. You can hear it five hours a day, every half an hour.”

In February under secretary of state Kevan Jones wrote to Mid-Worcester-shire MP Peter Luff to apologise for the training exercises, but reiterate that the aircraft are not breaching any air regulations.
