Monday, August 3 opens the first ever Pet Care Week at Twycross Zoo
Wincey was formerly known as a GMTV weather girl and presenter of the television programmes about animals, Animal Watch and Wincey’s Pets. Today she is a radio broadcaster, writer, public speaker and conservationist. Wincey has agreed to donate her time to the charity and will cut the ribbon and officially open Pet Care Week.
This is an ideal week to come and learn about responsible pet care and meet pets from around the world. The week will be full of special activities which will begin at 11.30 am each day with informative talks from our keepers. You will be able to learn how to care for chinchillas, rabbits, ferret, guinea pigs and a lot more. There will also be opportunities to meet the alpacas and donkeys and hear some interesting facts about them.
Throughout the week we are hoping that charity pet welfare groups will be on site. These charities will be on hand to give you additional advice and pet care information. You can also have your picture taken with the costume characters “Rupert” the rabbit and “Denzel” the donkey or just simply join in the fun and have your face painted, at a small charge, like one of the animals at the Zoo.
Monday, August 17 to Friday, August 21 – Darwin Week
This week will be full of fun activities and exhibitions, which will focus on Darwin’s theory of evolution.
Everyone can get involved by completing our Darwin trail; this will include a voyage around Twycross Zoo spotting a range of animals that Charles Darwin might have seen during his voyage on the Beagle. The trail is available from the Information Centre for just 50p. All profits to go to Twycross Zoo’s Conservation work.
You can also visit the Zoo Centre to discover more about this inspirational but still often controversial idea. Watch the Future is Wild; a TV series inspired by the theory of evolution, which predicts what animals, could evolve into in the future. You can make a Darwin beard to wear and learn about the man behind the theory.
