A HUSBAND and wife celebrating their 60th birthdays have raised hundreds of pounds for St Richard’s Hospice.
Denise and John Reeve, of Flyford Flavell, near Per-shore, tackled the 192-mile coast to coast walk from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay, Yorkshire.
They walked an average of 14 miles a day and raised £800 for the hospice in Wildwood Drive, Worcester, which cares for people with terminal illnesses.
Mrs Reeve said: “Although the walk was hard going at times the stunning scenery and nice people we met every day made it all worth while.
“We would go again tomorrow because it was such a fantastic experience for us both. It was well worth the sore feet and the blisters.”
The couple have taken part in the St Richard’s Malvern Hills Walk for many years and regularly walk in Yorkshire.
It was while in Yorkshire that they met an elderly man who gave them the idea to do the complete coast to coast walk.
St Richard’s fund-raising manager Tricia Cavell said: “This is a wonderful amount to have raised and we are so pleased Denise and John enjoyed their journey.”
This year St Richard’s needs £4.8 million to provide free services to 1,800 patients and families suffering from cancer and other terminal illnesses.
