CHILDREN and staff are celebrating after being awarded Green Flag status.

Broadheath CofE Primary School in Lower Broadheath, near Worcester, started working towards the status two years ago.

Since then it has developed an environmental garden, pond and growing areas.

Headteacher Jenny Taylor said: “Many children have benefited from learning about looking after the environment, not only in their own area, but world wide and this has largely been due to the influence of Irene Blake, a teacher at Broadheath for more than 30 years, who retired in July, and was here when the pond was dug and the trees for the wooded area were planted.

“We are all keen to continue her good work.”

The Green Flag is awarded to schools which demonstrate excellence in the field of environmental activity. It follows the bronze and silver awards and is assessed by representatives from Keep Britain Tidy.
