Fun and fireworks for first festival

COMEDY, fireworks, singing and dancing is set to boost a Worcester suburb’s bid to hold an annual event.

The three-day St Peter’s Festival running from Friday, October 23, until Sunday, October 25, will “put St Peter’s on the map”, according to organisers.

It will be the first of what is hoped will be a yearly event, with support from local schools, youth, church and community groups and people from the area.

The Rev Duncan Ballard, of St Mark’s in the Cherry Orchard church – one of the organisers, said he was “excited” by the response to the festival.

“What is exciting me is the mix of both large and small events. We’ve got the pre-school with their 10 minutes of singing and dancing as well as the comedy nights at the Baptist church.

“It’s a really good thing and it will put St Peter’s on the map.”

Bob Jenkins, parish council clerk and member of the festival organising committee, had previously said the event would be a chance for people to celebrate their community.

“The big idea behind the festival is that it will be a festival staged for the community by the community.”

Work on the festival is being undertaken by Dr Paul Sutton, of the University of Worcester, St Mark’s Church and St Peter’s Baptist Church.

Both churches and the village hall off Abbotsbury Court look set to be venues.
