THIS dancing duo have helped raise £30,000 for St Richard’s Hospice.

Philomena and Brian Green have been organising dances on the second Saturday of every month for years.

Their followers come from all over the country and all profits from the dance and raffle are donated to the hospice in Wildwood Drive, Worcester.

“We are delighted to have raised so much money for St Richard’s which is a popular charity,” said 69-year-old Mrs Green. Her husband added: “It is the dedication of the dancers who have raised the money. Without them we are nothing.

“I shall carry on doing this until they carry me out.” The couple, of Westfield Close, Fernhill Heath, Worcester, held their first fund-raising dance in 2002 and the ball has been rolling ever since.

A DJ since 1973, Mr Green, also aged 69, provides the music, while Mrs Green welcomes people through the doors and organises the ballroom, latin and sequence dancing. Marilyn Peachey, St Richard’s Hospice director of fund-raising said: “Brian and Philomena have built up a huge following of fans who love their dances.

“It is extremely generous of them to support St Richard’s in this way, and we would like to say a huge thank you for reaching such a fantastic sum to help our care of patients and their families.”

Your Worcester News has teamed up with the hospice to celebrate its 25th anniversary. This year, St Richard’s needs £4.8 million to provide free services to 1,800 patients and families suffering from cancer and other illnesses.Visit strichards.org.uk or justgiving.com/wn4strichards.
