A TASTER session is being held for new and potential volunteers interested in working in conservation.

Worcestershire Wildlife Trust are holding a session at Trench Wood nature reserve between Crowle and Droitwich, for people wanting to gain a working knowledge of conservation.

The wildlife charity needs more volunteers to help manage the reserve and the four-hour session will give volunteers the opportunity to discover why the reserve is so special and how to help conserve this important habitat.

Volunteer co-ordinator, Claire Dovey, said: “Without our volunteers we wouldn’t be able to manage Trench Wood and other reserves as well as we do. “Volunteering isn’t just about us needing help though - it also gives people a chance to learn some new skills as well as spend time in a fabulous place.

“On our taster session we’re offering anyone who’s interested the opportunity to come along and help with some scrub clearing. This is really important in order to provide the best habitat possible for the butterflies and moths that make the reserve so important.

“We’re not denying that some of it will be hard work – but it’s also fun and we’ll be having a bonfire and roasting potatoes at the end as a reward.”

Trench Wood is a large ancient woodland which is important for butterflies, wildflowers and woodland birds. The Trust owns about 1015 acres which stretches for about a mile along a ridge near Sale Green.

The session will take place between 11am and 3pm on Saturday, October 31 at Trench Wood reserve, approximately four miles south east of Droitwich town centre.
