A FLOURISHING Worcester festival has been nominated for an industry award.

Worcester Music Festival is in with a chance of winning two titles in the UK Festival Awards.

The awards aim to recognise and congratulate the huge efforts that go into creating the UK’s world-famous festival scene.

Worcester Music Festival, which took place in August, has been nominated for Best Grassroots Festival and Best Metropolitan Festival.

It is up against festivals of similar sizes and calibre.

Chris Bennion, chairman and founder of the festival, said: “It is just fantastic that we have been put forward for two awards this year. It should be seen as huge pat on the back for every single person who worked on the festival behind the scenes – those who were organizing the shows, those who helped fund it and, of course, the 130 acts that we had playing over the weekend.

“Worcester has a wonderful music scene and this festival proves that when people are willing to work together we can create something great.”

Urging people to log on and vote, Mr Bennion said that there were plans to go even further in 2010 and create a festival that not only the city, but also the whole county, could be proud of.

Across the border, Herefordshire’s Nozstock festival is up for Best Small Festival.

The annual event, which is held in Bromyard, was the brainchild of a local farmer and has gone from strength to strength since it began 11 years ago. This year headliners included the Buzzcocks and Scratch Perverts.

Public voting for the UK Festival Awards is now open. To cast a vote log onto festi valawards.com.

The winners will be announced at a gala awards ceremony in London on Thursday, November 19.
