A HORRIFIED grandmother would like to stub cigarettes out on the teenage mum who did the same to her own daughter and has called for the return of the death penalty.

Pauline Eaton, whose baby granddaughter will be scarred for life has condemned the baby’s teenage mum, Charlotte Sutton, who stubbed out cigarettes three times on the tot’s back. Mrs Eaton, aged 50, of Fitzwilliam Close, Dines Green, Worcester, is the mother of Carl, the baby’s 24-year-old father, who is now looking after the two-year-old and has nothing more to do with Sutton.

Mrs Eaton, a mother-of-four and grandmother of three, took the horrifying photograph published today in your Worcester News on her mobile phone.

She described the moment of horror when she saw the crater-like burns in her granddaughter’s flesh after picking the baby up from Worcester city centre.

Nineteen-year-old Sutton, of Cranham Drive, Warndon, Worcester, told her the baby had been burned ‘accidentally’ which was later ruled out by experts. Sutton was sentenced to nine months in a young offender’s institute at Hereford Crown Court on Monday. But Mrs Eaton said they should bring back the death penalty for people like her. She also vowed never to speak to her again and said she would fight against Sutton getting her daughter back when she got out of prison.

She said: “I felt sick and I was in tears. There were three craters in her flesh. I wanted to put a cigarette out on Charlotte so she could see what pain she had put that baby through. She was always as good as gold with me. She is my world and I love her to bits.”

Mrs Eaton alerted the authorities as soon as discovered her granddaughter’s appalling injuries on May 30 last year.

She said her happy granddaughter’s face was white ‘like a blank canvas’ and she was afraid to make eye contact with anyone. Mrs Eaton said: “I don’t think Charlotte feels any remorse. She just shrugged in court. Kids put their trust in adults and that trust was abused. It was pitiful, the way my granddaughter would wake up screaming with pain.

“It was heartbreaking. I think Charlotte should get the death penalty for what she has done. I would press the button. Nobody should do anything against kids. They’re innocent and they can’t fight back. We have to stand up for children. Where were the people for Baby P? If someone stuck up for Baby P, maybe Baby P would be here today.”

Mrs Eaton has also joined a Facebook group, called ‘Charlotte Sutton’, which currently has more than 200 members. It features strongly-worded messages from outraged people.
