A MAN and a woman from Herefordshire have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The two were arrested in Ledbury in the early hours of the morning and are being questioned at Hereford Police Station.

Police also today named the murder victim as Thomas Holt - know to friends as Tom, of Gloucestershire, whose body was recovered from the River Frome, near Bromyard, on Wednesday October 7.

The unmarried 36-year-old, of May Hill, Longhope, had last been seen by family in August. He had no children.

Detectives believe he had been in the water at least a week, and a murder enquiry has now been launched with 50 officers working on the case.

A port mortem examination has failed to establish cause of death and further tests are being carried out.

Detectives are now appealing for information about Mr Holt’s whereabouts since the end of August when he was last seen by his family in May Hill.

Mr Holt is described as being white, with longish brown hair and approximately 5 ft 9 ins tall.

Detective Inspector Dave Llewellin, leading the murder enquiry, said: “We need to know more about what Tom was doing and where he has been since he last saw his family at the end of August.

“We know that he had friends in and around Lydney and the Forest of Dean and connections in Gloucester and I would like to appeal directly to anyone who knew Tom to contact us if they have seen him in recent weeks.

“We are also keen to hear from anyone in and around Bromyard and Ledbury who thinks they may know Tom and have seen him in the area since the end of August.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room at Hereford on 0300 333 3000 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
